shaunte, i am a senior at wellesley college and i can definitely identify with your experience. i must say i wish i had taken advantage of the exchange program and spent a semester at spelman. im also a 1st generation and have experienced the same kind of anxiety. good luck in all of your endeavors!

Very well said! FINALLY.....I have more ammuniton to fire back at people who refuse to send their children to HBCUs because they claim the schools do not reflect the real world. Maybe the real world needs to start looking like Spellman and Morehouse! (I also went to a University where we were less than 3%).

To add to that anxiety, they are thrown into an environment that fails to acknowledge the contributions of our people. While I understand her's friends point about HBCUs not representing the "real world", I strongly believe our children must have a strong and positive sense of who they are in order to deal with the challenges of the real world.
